On Weds., Oct. 29, 2025, the Rappaport Center presented, "Responding to the Executive Branch's Targeted Enforcement: How Lawyers Protect Civil Rights." From the border to the classroom, the Executive Branch’s recent enforcement choices have raised questions about whether it is targeting certain groups or ideas for selective or punitive treatment. This panel of seasoned civil rights attorneys explores how such uses of executive authority intersect with constitutional principles — including the First Amendment and due process — and how lawyers are responding in defense of the freedom to think, teach, and belong in a constitutional democracy. Moderated by Rappaport Senior Fellow Carol Rose, Executive Director, ACLU of MA, this panel features Jessie Rossman, Legal Director, ACLU of MA; Naomi Shatz, Partner, Zalkind Duncan & Bernstein LLP; David Zimmer, Partner, Zimmer, Citron & Clarke, LLP.
