📖 Bible in a Year - Day 26: Genesis 41–42 Genesis 41–42 is a major turning point in Joseph’s story. After years of injustice and silence, God suddenly reverses Joseph’s circumstances. Pharaoh is troubled by dreams no one can explain—until Joseph is brought up from prison. Joseph gives God the credit, interprets the dreams, and is elevated to rule over Egypt. As the famine spreads, Joseph’s brothers come to Egypt for food, and the first stage of confrontation and testing begins. God’s providence is unmistakable: what was meant for evil is being positioned for rescue. What we cover in Genesis 41–42: • Pharaoh’s Dreams – Seven fat cows and seven thin cows; seven good ears and seven thin ears (Gen. 41:1–7) • Joseph Brought from Prison – God’s timing after long waiting (41:14) • God Gets the Glory – “It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh a favorable answer” (41:16) • Wisdom and Strategy – Storage plan for seven years of plenty and seven years of famine (41:33–36) • Joseph Exalted – From prisoner to second-in-command (41:38–46) • Famine Spreads – The nations come to Joseph for bread (41:53–57) • Brothers Arrive – They bow before Joseph, not recognizing him (Gen. 42:6–9) • Testing and Conviction – Accusations, Simeon bound, Benjamin required (42:14–24) • Guilt Awakens – “In truth we are guilty…” (42:21) Where we see Jesus: Joseph’s exaltation after suffering is a powerful foreshadowing of Christ—humiliation, rejection, then glory. Joseph becomes the one through whom bread is given to the nations, pointing to Jesus as the true Bread of Life who saves sinners and provides life. And the brothers’ awakening guilt previews repentance and reconciliation—things only Jesus ultimately accomplishes fully. Welcome to Jesus Verse by Verse!
