📖 Bible in a Year - Day 27: Genesis 43–45 Genesis 43–45 brings Joseph’s story to an emotional peak. The brothers return to Egypt with Benjamin, and Joseph continues testing—not to punish, but to reveal whether their hearts have changed. In Genesis 44, Judah steps forward and offers himself in Benjamin’s place, showing real repentance and sacrificial love. Then in Genesis 45, Joseph can’t hold back any longer: he reveals his identity, weeps, forgives, and explains God’s sovereign purpose—God sent him ahead to preserve life. What began as betrayal becomes a pathway to reconciliation. What we cover in Genesis 43–45: • The Brothers Return with Benjamin – Fear, mercy, and Joseph’s kindness (Gen. 43) • A Table of Grace – Joseph provides and blesses (43:16–34) • The Final Test – The silver cup and the setup (Gen. 44:1–13) • Judah’s Intercession – Substitution offered for Benjamin (44:18–34) • Repentance Revealed – A changed heart vs. old patterns (Gen. 44) • Joseph Reveals Himself – “I am Joseph!” (Gen. 45:1–4) • Sovereign Providence – “God sent me before you…” (45:5–8) • Forgiveness and Restoration – Weeping, embrace, and a new future (45:9–15) • The Family Moves Toward Rescue – Invitation to Goshen (45:16–28) Where we see Jesus: Judah’s plea is one of the clearest pictures of intercession and substitution in Genesis—offering himself to spare his brother. It points to Jesus, who actually becomes our substitute and bears our judgment. Joseph’s forgiveness and his words about God’s purpose point to the Gospel: God turns evil for good, saving many lives. Reconciliation, tears, and restoration here foreshadow the greater reconciliation Christ brings between sinners and God. Welcome to Jesus Verse by Verse!
