Operating a diesel locomotive was probably the best railfan experience I’ve ever had! In the video, the last passenger train of the day was backed into the station to let the riders off. We then cut off the passenger cars and I climbed into the locomotive. After some observation along with basic safety and operational instruction, I took the engineer’s seat and ran the loco about 5 miles which included several grade crossings. The guys in the cab were excellent and gave the history of the locomotive as well as the railroad itself. It was a little pricey, but well worth it! Colebrookdale Railroad locomotive #7236 was built by EMD for the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1959 as a GP9. In 1979 after Conrail took over Penn Central, #7236 received electrical and mechanical upgrades at the Paducah Shops and was re-designated a GP10. It arrived at the Colebrookdale Railroad (Boyertown, PA) in 2016. Thanks for checking out the video and don’t forget to like and subscribe!
