I Found Things I'd Never Seen Shopping for Antiques & Vintage!

One of the highlights of selling at antique shows is getting to explore what others have brought! This is especially true at the West Palm Beach Antique Fest, where dealers from across the East Coast and Midwest gather to showcase stunning sculptures, European antiques, designer costume jewelry, and other vintage treasures that aren't often seen at typical antique shows. We have a little time to explore before the event opens, and we’re coming across items we've never encountered before! A striking MCM brutalist sculpture by a well-known artist, intricately carved Black Forest saint figures in polychrome, 19th century Wedgwood Basalt Ware and even a set of French brothel candle timers (yes, you read that right!) are just a few of the distinctive items we encounter on our tour. We discover a case of fantastic Josef of Hollywood jewelry, Blenko lamps, a hard-to-find head vase, champlevé crucifixes, and a salon of finely gilded European antique furniture. These pieces truly add sparkle to the show and are sought-after finds for serious collectors. There’s lots of accessible antiques and vintage as well! A big Tonala bull with a Ken Edwards signature, a fab 50s flamingo mirror, Grecian god wall tiles and a sinuous 1930s Czech vase with a story we’ve just learned are some of the fun finds for more budget minded collectors and decorators. The stories are numerous and fascinating, as dealers take time to point out interesting things as diverse as a Black American sheet music collection, a Canadian artist painting of the syrup harvest, and a fused/recycled glass set that only sheer luck managed to keep together. So many cool things to learn here…one shopper tells us what black light to use to see glass surprises beyond just uranium glass, another dealer tells us about a family of artists, and we learn that a beautiful bejeweled 1920s atomizer can be restored!
