(17 Mar 1997) English/Nat Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher has endorsed her successor John Major and said she would be fighting with "all her strength" for a Conservative Party victory in the May 1 election. Speaking outside her London office Thatcher told reporters the country should stick with the Conservative government ''until we cross the finishing line." Former British Prime Minister Lady Thatcher, dressed in a conservative blue suit, gave a ringing endorsement to the government when she heard that an election was to be called on May 1st. SOUNDBITE: (English) "The phrase New Labour is cunningly designed to conceal a lot of old socialism. Don't be taken in. The second point is I hear people saying 'Time for a change'. That's absurd. If you have got a good builder or, dare I say it, a good grocer or a good government, you don't change. You stick with them, and I hope you'll stick with us."
