Struggle with interrupting especially when your thoughts move fast and you’re scared you’ll forget them? You’re not alone. In this practical, shame free guide, ADHD coach Caroline Maguire explains why interrupting happens with ADHD and shows you simple, repeatable tools that curb it while keeping your voice in the conversation. You’ll learn ADHD friendly ways to hold a thought without cutting in, build a natural pause, and repair smoothly when you do jump in. The goal isn’t perfection. It’s connection, confidence, and conversations that feel better for everyone. Caroline explains that ADHD brains often interrupt because thoughts race, short term memory can drop ideas, impulses fire quickly, and excitement takes over. She teaches how to capture ideas without cutting in by jotting a note or dropping a quick voice memo and how to anchor yourself with phrases like “let me finish this thought” so you stay on track. You practice creating space with a one to two beat pause, a single full breath, and by mirroring the other person’s pace. To stay present, you silently repeat their last few words and ask clarifying questions that slow the moment down. She adds simple body anchors like light pressure on your leg or wrist to cue a pause. When you do slip, you repair with a quick apology, invite them to finish, and remain engaged. Finally, you reflect after the conversation to spot triggers, energy levels, and patterns so tomorrow goes better.
