Well, where do I begin with this? In late June of 2024, I went on a railfan trip with two friends from Iowa for some action around the St. Louis area. After months of planning, it was time. We had seen a lot of stuff during our trip, that this is only one part out of two. 6/27: 0:00 - Intro I think I was overdue for a new intro, so I decided to grab something from the trip I thought would work. Additionally, just something I threw in since I had a video of an NS intermodal near Taylorville, IL. 0:48 - Norfolk Southern D12 (Decatur, IL - Carlock, IL) After grabbing brunch in Bloomington, the plan was to railfan the area before heading down to St. Louis. However, with not much traffic, we headed west to Gibson City. After seeing some Bloomer Line action and looking at a Southern Railway piggyback trailer, we were notified of an NS train heading towards us with all TILX covered hoppers. The actual train symbol is my best guess. NS #9833 (GE C44-9W, Horsehead) NS #7510 (GE ES44DC, Horsehead) Location: South of 1880 W 8th St Gibson City, IL 60936 6/28: 3:28 - Union Pacific ZG4MQ-28 (Joliet, IL - Mesquite, TX) We woke up with reports of a Southern Pacific patch trailing 2nd out on ITUG4, sitting in the yard less than a mile away from it. After checking it out, we got ahead of it. While waiting, Union Pacific's Joliet to Mesquite intermodal passes us. Note the Hub Group 50th Anniversary container. UP #5520 (GE AC45CCTE, Long Hood Flag) UP #6696 (GE AC44CW, Lettering) 5:43 - Union Pacific ITUG4-25 (Tucson, AZ - Joliet, IL) Not long after G4MQ, the Tug as we called it passes by us with the Southern Pacific patched locomotive in tow. As the train passes, the TRRA's T101 job works Venice Yard. UP #8204 (GE ES44AC-H, Long Hood Flag) UP #6379 (GE AC44CW, Southern Pacific Patch) Location: 738 Bissell St Venice, IL 62090 9:38 - Terminal Railroad Association of St. Louis T101 (Venice, IL - North Riverfront, MO) Once T101 left, we caught it entering Luther Yard at North Riverfront. Leading the train is the railroad's two SD60I locomotives, and was hauling mainly auto-related cars, such as autoracks and car frames. TRRA #4001 (EMD SD60I) TRRA #4002 (EMD SD60I) Location: Near 360 E Carrie Ave St. Louis, MO 63147 6/29: 12:09 - CSX M376 (Rose Lake, IL - Avon, IN) Now in Caseyville, IL around the outskirts of the St. Louis area on the Illinois side, we see two trains, both led by Union Pacific power. The first of which is M376 to Avon, IN from nearby CSX's East St. Louis yard. UP #6621 (GE C44ACM, Long Hood Flag) UP #5249 (GE AC45CCTE, Long Hood Flag) 16:43 - CSX M373 (Avon, IN - Rose Lake, IL) Next, we catch the opposite of that train, also with UP power. From what I found, this train interchanges from CSX to UP at Rose Lake, which later heads to Arkansas I believe.
