located in the Coimbatore District of Tamil Nadu at the southern part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve in the Anamalai Hills, Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary has been named after the first woman Prime Minister of India. Also referred as Anaimalai Sanctuary, it is located at the core of Nilgiri Biosphere Preserve and was notified as a sanctuary in the year of 1974 Route: NH7 to Toppur via Krishnagiri; SH to Bhavani via Mettur; NH47 to Coimbatore; NH209 to Pollachi; state roads to Top Slip via Sethumadai Alternate Route NH209 to Pollachi via Kanakapura, Kollegal, Chanarajnager, Satyamangalam and Coimbatore Wild elephants going on a rampage on agricultural fields and attacking humans are quite common in different parts of India. No wonder with the increasing human population, the wild elephants are losing their ground. They often make inroads into human settlements resulting in man-animal conflict. To control these rogue elephants, specially trained elephants are needed. There are a few camps across the country where these elephants are trained. Kozhikamuthi Elephant Camp, located deep inside the Anamalai Tiger Reserve, Tamil Nadu, is one such camp. Kumkis are trained male tuskers who carry out the capture operations.
