(Please read the instructions on the form before sending a request): https://forms.gle/y24TaENXChddrXuH6 Neru Green Screen by BlueSecchi • アスナグリーンスクリーン Animation by @FCXAnimations In September of 1999 Hurricane Floyd, a cyclone originating from a tropical wave off the coast of Africa, crashed into the eastern Seaboard of the United States. In the Carolinas, Floyd was a name to remember. South Carolina was spared from the worst, but the state was still battered by heavy rainfall. In North Carolina, A 9-10ft storm surge, along with over a foot of rain, and high winds, resulted in destruction like nothing the state had experienced from a tropical cyclone since 1954’s Hurricane Hazel . New records in rainfall totals and peak river crests in the state were made left and right. Hence, a monster like the Carolinas had never seen before would be required to bring them to their knees once more. That monster came in 2018 in the form of Hurricane Florence. In Mid-September 2018, Hurricane Florence slowly trekked across North and South Carolina. For those in the Carolinas, the most notable part of the storm wasn’t the wind, it was the flooding. Florence's large size and slow movement resulted in high storm surge and record shattering flooding strongly remembered by Carolinians. The impact and damage caused by Florence, to many, was far worse than that of Floyd. This year marks 5 years since Hurricane Florence wrought havoc to the Carolinas, so today I will be giving a brief overview of some previous storms to impact the Carolinas, the origins, timeline of events, impacts, aftermath, and importance of what happened.
