Located in the county of Leicestershire, and around three miles south of central Leicester, is the town of Wigston Magna. The town's name is believed to derive from Crown Prince Wigstan, heir to the Kingdom of Mercia who was murdered in 849AD by Berhtwulf, the Regent King. The 'Magna' component was added in the medieval era, referring to the Latin word for large, thus distinguishing it from other places of the same name, e.g. Wigston Parva, South Wigston. Its growth came about largely due to the hosiery industry. At the southern end of the town centre is the Parish Church of All Saints. This dates back to the 14th century, with 15th century additions and some 19th century restoration. The church is Grade I listed. Although there is no railway station in Wigston Magna, its nearest station is situated in the neighbouring village of South Wigston, about a mile to the west. Alternatively, the town is served by direct buses to and from Leicester, Oadby and various other nearby locations. 👇 SUBSCRIBE TO 4K EXPLORER FOR NEW VIDEOS EVERY WEEK 👇 https://www.youtube.com/4KExplorer?su...
