Dame Elizabeth Taylor agreed to do, "Reflections in a Golden Eye" (1967) with Montgomery Clift being her co-star. His career, as well as his personal life, was spiraling downward in the early 1960's. Due to drug and alcohol abuse, he was deemed uninsurable and was unable to secure film work. Elizabeth was ready to cover his insurance fee of one million dollars in order for Montgomery to make the film. Unfortunately, three months before film was to begin, Montgomery Clift died of a heart attack, at the age of 45, in 1966. Elizabeth could barely accept it. He was closer to her than a brother. She and Richard flower arrangement sais, "Rest in Peace, Perturbed Soul". Marlon Brando took the role that was slated for Monty. The odd story was that of closet homosexuality, adulterous affairs and very complex characters development. It certainly is worth seeing. Elizabeth was excellent in her over the top wife of a homosexual army major. Actually, Marlon and Elizabeth got on famously together....despite what the press was saying about an all out feud.
