GH binds to transmembrane receptors and sends signals through the Janus kinase–signal transducer and activator of transcription pathway. GH acts directly on tissues and indirectly through insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), secreted by the liver. The main actions of GH and IGF-1 are to promote bone and muscle growth and increase blood sugar and lipolysis during times of fasting. GH release from the pituitary is stimulated by GHRH from the hypothalamus and inhibited by somatostatin from the hypothalamus. GH levels are highest during puberty and early adolescence. GH release is also stimulated by ghrelin from the stomach; ghrelin, and therefore GH, are increased during starvation. #fmge #fmgevideos #rapidrevisionfmge #fmgejan2023 #mbbslectures #nationalexitexam #nationalexittest #neetpg #usmlepreparation #usmlestep1 #fmge #usmle #drgbhanuprakash #medicalstudents #medicalstudent #medicalcollege #neetpg2023 #usmleprep #usmlephysiology #physiologyusmle
