Professor Sekhar Bandyopadhyay: Prof. Bandyopadhyay is Emeritus Professor of History at Victoria University of Wellington, where he was the founding Director of the New Zealand India Research Institute. His primary research interest is in the history of nationalism and caste system in colonial and postcolonial India. He is also interested in the history of Indian migration and the Indian Diaspora. He has written seven books, edited or co-edited fifteen books, and published more than fifty book chapters and journal articles. His most popular book is From Plassey to Partition and After: A History of Modern India, New Delhi: Orient BlackSwan, 2015. His most recent book, co-authored with Anasua Basu Ray Chaudhury, is Caste and Partition in Bengal: The Story of Dalit Refugees, 1946-1961, Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2022. Two of his recent co-edited books are Caste in Bengal: Histories of Hierarchy, Exclusion and Resistance, co-edited with Tanika Sarkar, Ranikhet: Permanent Black, 2022; and The Long History of Partition in Bengal: Event, Memory, Representations, co-edited with Rituparna Roy and Jayanta Sengupta, London: Routledge, 2024. He is a Fellow of Royal Society of New Zealand (2009) and a recipient of Rabindra Puroskar (2014). .................. He is the author of At the Margins: Discourses of Development, Democracy and Regionalism in Orissa (Oxford University Press, 2015), Those Noble Edifices: The Raj Bhavans of Bengal (Victoria Memorial Hall, 2019), and two books of essays in Bengali. He is also co-editor of The Long History of Partition in Bengal: Event, Memory, Representations (Routledge, 2024).
