Shouldn't I use a professional headshot? If you have one you can, but professional headshots are not required and are generally more appropriate for -ID cards -websites where photos need to look uniform Want to book a professional photo shoot? Ditch the solid-color backdrop in favor of a more natural setting (i.e. on campus, in your office, in nature). Want photos you can use for your website and media appearances? Working with a professional photographer is a great idea. You want to book a branding photo shoot so you get more natural looking photos • Photography, Hair, and Makeup: Visual Bran... Is a selfie okay on LinkedIn? Yes! A selfie is totally fine on LinkedIn. To prove this, I use selfies for my profile photo (and most of the photos on my website). Here are some tips for taking selfies -Your smartphone camera is a great option -Use the timer setting -Try 2-3 different backgrounds -Natural light is great -No good lighting? Get a ring light -Prop up your phone and use timer to take a shot from further away -A selfie stick can help -Don't edit or retouch your photo unless it's necessary Should I use a different photo than other places (i.e. social media)? No, use the same photo for your social media and public appearances. Some people think having a 'professional photo' on LinkedIn means having a separate photo where you're in a suit or blazer and looking business-y. But the same people who are connecting with you on LinkedIn are on other social media platforms too.
