Different Types of OSTEOPATHIC EDUCATION in USA, Canada, Europe & the rest of the World

There are two types of osteopathy and they are different independent health professions. One type of osteopathy is taught only in the United States of America. It is known as American style osteopathy or osteopathic medicine. Graduates of this program are awarded the title of DO (Doctor of Osteopathy) which has the same scope of practice as the MD title in the US. The next type of osteopathy is taught in many countries, including the US and that is the European style of osteopathy, also known as manual osteopathy in Canada and osteopathic manual practice in the United States. The graduates of European style osteopathy receive different titles, depending on where they study. In Canada, the most common title is DOMP (Diploma in Osteopathic Manual Practice) which is copyrighted by National Academy of Osteopathy (Canada). In US, the National University of Medical Sciences - USA (http://www.numss.us) registered with the Florida Department of States since March 2016, is the first and only school of osteopathic manual practice. NUMSS (USA) offers a BSc (OMP) and a PhD (OCS) in osteopathic manual practice. In Europe, National University of Medical Sciences - Spain (http://www.numss.com) offers a DO (doctor of osteopathy) in the field of hands-on manual osteopathy. The osteopathy educational training around the world vary in length depending on scope of practice available in each country. It ranges from a 1 year diploma program to 4 years diploma or degree programs. National Academy of Osteopathy (http://www.nationalacademyofosteopath...) is the largest provider of manual osteopathic education in the world with alumni in 72 countries. All 335 clinics of Osteopathy Chronic Pain Clinics of Canada (http://www.osteopathypainclinics.com) located in 30 countries have manual osteopaths who are NAO (Canada) alumni.
