Watch the Latest camping lantern comparison video • 6 Best Lanterns Compared 2022 (Camping, Po... Welcome to the Urban Survivor channel and in this video we’re going to be taking a look at a compact little lantern from LEDLenser called the ML4. You can grab the ML4 here using my affiliate link -https://amzn.to/3SLnXdL This compact little lantern has white and red LEDs, a max output of 300 lumens and a max runtime of 45 hours and you can charge it via usb or swap in and out AA batteries. If you are looking for a small little lantern to take backpacking, camping or to include into your everyday carry this is definitely one you don’t want to miss. The ML4 is IP66 rated and weighs just 2.5 ounces or 71grams and just under 4 inches or 97mm. If you look closely you can see a bunch of tiny little transparent rings which are designed to help reduce glare. On top there’s a carabiner clip which you can use to hang the lantern from different objects and the loop has about a 1 inch diameter. There’s a button on top which allows you to turn the lantern on and off and cycle through the different modes. This is the magnetic charging port which will jump back to shortly and on the bottom there’s a cap that unscrews so you can replace the batteries. The ML4 comes with a 14500 rechargeable lithium battery but you can also power this lantern with a regular AA battery which I thought was a pretty great feature because if the included battery dies and you dont have time to recharge it you can just carry a spare, pop it in and your back in business. You can insert the battery by unscrewing the base of the ml4. It comes with a magnetic charging USB cable and all you have to do is plug it in to a power source and bring the magnetic end close to the ML4 and it will snap in place. To turn the ML4 on, all you have to do is click the button on the top. This lantern has a handful of different output options including a low 5 lumens mode with a 45 hour runtime. There’s also a 50 lumens mode, a 150 lumens mode, a strobe mode and finally a Turbo mode with a 300 lumen output which you can activate by double clicking the button. Turbo mode will automatically step back down to it’s previous setting after about 30 seconds. If you hold the button down for 3 seconds you activate the red light mode and you can cycle through the different brightness levels by pushing the button on the top. To switch back to white, hold the button on top down for 3 seconds again. There’s also a little bit of glow in the dark coating on the button and throughout the body of the lantern which will glow after the light turns on or if it’s exposed to the sun which makes it easier to find the lantern when it’s dark. Overall I was really impressed with the ML4 and it would make a great lantern for hiking, camping and everyday carry use. It’s got plenty of brightness to light up large spaces and the runtimes are great and would come in handy if you need to use it for extended periods of time without being able to recharge. I really like the fact that you can swap in and out different batteries and the red light is also a great feature for preserving your night vision and also for signalling. If you are looking for a lantern to take backpacking, campaign or want to include one as part of your everyday carry then this is probably your best option.
