Deep Hole at Myakka River State Park

What an amazing experience! This wasn't might first trip to Deep Hole, but this time I hung around a while. I hiked my camp chair out there and just sat in the shade watching the 50 to 75 gators going about their day. They would chase fish, walk in and out of the water, open their mouths to cool off, swim from one bank to another, and then there was the mating. That was something to see!!! You could even hear the bellowing and see the vibration of the water as they climbed all over each other. Only 30 wilderness passes are given out a day at the ranger station. I arrived when the park opened and by the time I was driving down to the trailhead, there was already about a dozen of us signed up for the hike... and that was a Tuesday. Most people just hied out there, took a couple pictures and headed back. After about ten minutes it was just me and another couple.
