The School Board held its second budget work session to discuss capital improvements and operating budget priorities for the 2026-27 school year. Chief Operating Officer Alicia Prince presented an update on the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) process and the upcoming Facilities Condition Assessment (FCA), which will provide objective data about building conditions and help guide future capital investments. The city will partner with FCCPS on a comprehensive facilities assessment to align long-term planning efforts. Ms. Prince also reviewed recently completed projects and work currently underway across all schools. Board members then shared their priorities for the operating budget, with strong consensus around teacher and staff compensation, student support positions including reading and math specialists, transportation recruitment strategies, AI implementation support, and operational needs. The discussion emphasized meeting every student "by name and by need" while supporting the educators and staff who make that possible. Dr. Dade thanked the Board for ongoing transparent communication about district needs and will present a proposed budget on February 10, with additional work sessions to follow.
