12/2/2026 The Cumbrian Mountaineer; This marked my first time having LNER A2 No. 60532 'Blue Peter' for haulage, making it also my second LNER locomotive on the mainline. This is also the first time i've properly filmed and seen it, having seen it backwards at Southall and on Static Display at The Greatest Gathering. So I've edited this video slightly differently to normal in terms of format, ive decided to include the other workings I filmed at Crewe and Carlisle as well as the tour in question. Knowing me, if I had just included the tour, these other workings would never end up in a video! Blue Peter is an absolutely stunning locomotive, quite rare to see out, and of course unique too, being a sole survivor. It has an amazing chime whistle, which can be heard a surprising distance away, I'm convinced at Carlisle, we heard the whistle whilst it was still in Upperby Depot, which isn't that close, well it is and isn't. It put in a great performance, despite being Signal checked before Tebay, Grayrigg and Shap, it managed to pick up speed rather quickly as if it never stopped! I believe this is involved in the Shap Trials against Sir Nigel Gresley, I feel whilst Gresley has the speed, it doesn't quite have the power Blue Peter had up that climb. I didnt realise how much variety you get up north, saw Class 67s and 68s, as well as Class 66s of course, a freshly refurbished Scotrail Class 320. As well as Blue Peter, you had Class 50 No. D400 which brought the train from Euston and Class 37 667 'Flopsie' which took the stock in and out to be serviced, both giving some welly as they went. It was nice to finally see the Pride livery Class 807 (or 805 can't remember) too, interesting livery! Side tangent, how are there so many complaints about Class 68s on Chiltern when the Class 67s are so loud, we weren't even stood anywhere the TFW Class 67 and you'd think you were stood next to it, it was that loud!😂 Anyways, hope you enjoy the video, let me know your thoughts on the different format, and I'll see you next time!
