Overview Smart Conform uses content-aware analysis to automatically reframe clips when changing aspect ratios (e.g., converting Widescreen to Vertical). By identifying faces and focal points, it keeps the most important action inside the frame. Limitations with Cropped Clips Final Cut Pro will not auto-reframe clips that already have a Crop, Trim, or Ken Burns effect applied. These must be adjusted manually in the new project. The Workaround 1 Select the clip in your new project. 2 Activate the Transform tool. 3 Adjust the size and position manually, then click Done. Note: Even though manual adjustment is required, the underlying Ken Burns or Crop effect is preserved and remains active in the new aspect ratio. Smart Conform utilizes content-aware analysis to reframe clips when the source aspect ratio differs from the project settings. By identifying focal points—such as faces or distinct visual elements—Final Cut Pro automatically adjusts the framing to preserve essential content. This feature is particularly effective for adapting standard widescreen (16:9) media for non-standard delivery formats, such as square or vertical social media channels. However, Final Cut Pro will not automatically reframe a clip that has a crop applied to it. Cropping, trimming or applying a Ken Burns Effect needs to be manually adjusted once we are in our new project with a different aspect ratio. In the new project, select the clip. Then activate the transform tool and adjust the size and position of your clip. Then click Done. While you had to manually adjust the reframe, you did NOT lose your Ken Burns Effect. It is still there in the project with the new aspect ratio!
