The 1954 Atlantic Hurricane Season was an above average season featuring 16 named storms and was at the time the costliest season on record. The season featured numerous notorious hurricanes that struck the East Coast and other portions of the basin. Carol and Edna struck the Northeast and New England. Hazel brought catastrophic damage and loss of life in the Caribbean and hit the Carolinas hard as a major hurricane with its remnants later on causing destructive damage in Canada. The season also featured Hurricane Alice II, the second Alice named in accordance with the new year though formed within 1954 and took a weird southwesterly motion into the Caribbean Sea.
