The Pahlawan Mosque in Air Kuning Village, Jembrana, was one of the hiding places for chests containing weapons and explosives during the independence struggle against the Dutch. The chests were hidden inside the mosque, specifically in the roof. The mosque played a crucial role during the revolution of 1945-1949 as a hiding place for weapons brought by I Gusti Ngurah Rai from Java against Dutch soldiers. The people of Air Kuning changed the name to the Heroes' Mosque. The Mosque, which was modest in size and not particularly spacious at the time, could accommodate approximately 20 weapons. These weapons were placed randomly (within the mosque area). Some were placed on the floor, simply covered with cloth. Others were placed on the ceiling of the mosque, as at that time the mosque ceiling was made of woven bamboo (bedeg), making it easy to drill holes. Some were placed in the corners of the mosque and covered with cloth. The fighters believed that the Dutch would not enter it as it was a place of worship. However, if they were placed inside people's homes, they would certainly be discovered by the Dutch, as Dutch patrols frequently searched homes. The mosque was the first mosque built by Muslims who arrived in Jembrana Regency. The King of Jembrana provided land for the Muslim settlers to live in.
