Recipe ⬇️ Bánh Cam - Vietnamese Sesame Balls Mung Beans Prep: 1 bag (14 oz) Mung Beans Rinse until water runs clear Soak for at least 6 hours or overnight with warm water Rinse, drain, steam for 45 minutes or until cooked Use a food processor or mortar & pestle to blend into a creamy paste consistency, add to a large bowl along with: 1 1/4 cup Sugar 1/2 tsp Salt 2 tsp Vanilla Extract 1 cup dry Coconut Flakes Mix well, form into tight round balls then set aside Liquid for Dough: In a medium size pot, on med high heat add: 1 3/4 cup water 1 1/4 cup sugar 2 Tbsp Vegetable oil Stir, bring to a boil Remove from heat Add 1/2 cup instant OR fresh mashed potatoes Stir well Add 2 tsp Vanilla Extract, stir Let liquid cool for about 10 mins In another large mixing bowl mix together: 1 bags (16 oz) Glutinous Rice Flour 3 Tbsp Rice Flour 2 tsp Baking Powder In batches, slowly pour in the warm liquid mixture Knead dough until smooth If dough feels dry, add 1 Tbsp of water at a time then knead until soft Cover, let dough rest for 15 minutes Rolling: Add Sesame Seeds to a large bowl Prepare a large baking tray fully covered with plastic wrap Lightly oil hands with oil Grab a pinch of dough, roll into a ball, flatten dough into a thin disc shape, place the mung bean filling into the center, close dough and seal the edges Roll ball into the bowl of sesame seeds With both hands gently press in the sesame seeds then smooth it out Place onto baking tray You can fry immediately OR for best result, let it sit covered for at least an hour or overnight before frying *If you have leftover mung beans fillings, you can freeze it for later use Frying: Add Vegetable oil to a medium size nonstick pot Oil should be at least 2 inches over the Sesame Balls after it’s dropped in Turn heat to medium high Once oil temp reach 350F (using a thermometer) Add the Bánh Cam in one at a time Use chopsticks, constantly move it around Once it’s puffed up press it down as you’re frying it so it can rise more Do not overcrowd the pot Continue frying until a light golden brown Remove, place on baking tray with cooling rack Enjoy!
