Starting in Wayne State University, we pass the DeRoy Auditorium, Detroit Public Library, Carhartt HQ, Cadillac Place (old GM HQ) and catch a glimpse of the stunning Fisher Building. The metro-Detroit area has been getting hit with a lot of rain lately, so it was time to test the waterproof capabilities of the camera. This walk is a wet one, and I learned a bit about how I can improve my wet-weather filming in the future. Anyways, the first notable building we pass is the DeRoy Auditorium built in 1962-65, designed by renowned architect Minoru Yamasaki, the same person who designed the World Trade Center in New York. You'll note the similar lines he used in both designs. The Detroit Public Library, which opened in 1921, is next. The mosaic above the entrance is entitled "The River of Knowledge" and is stunning. Continuing up Cass we pass by student housing, as well as several restaurants and bars. At the corner of Cass and the I-94 freeway sits the headquarters for the internationally-beloved work clothing brand, Carhartt. Up the road a little further, we pass by the edge of Detroit's Tech Town area, and pass under the Cass Avenue Viaducts. These railroad underpasses house a unique art installation, consisting of thousands of reflective panels. It is mesmerizing at both day and night as you'll see. Exiting the underpasses, we now enter into the New Center Area. Cadillac Place, the former headquarters of General Motors, quickly comes into focus, with its 4 towers taking up the skyline. GM now resides in the Renaissance Center downtown. As we close in on our stopping point at Grand Boulevard, we end with views of the Hotel Saint Regis across the street, and a glipse of the art deco masterpiece, the Fisher Building. I hope you enjoy this 2nd Cass video, which completes our walk up Cass Ave. from downtown to New Center. Thanks for watching!
