I decided to quit social media, mainly Facebook, after reading a book called Digital Minimalism. I learned that I had become addicted to social media because I was spending several hours per day scrolling through my news feed. My wife and I would sit on the couch and just scroll through our phones.I was missing out on a lot of things in my life because I was so attached to my phone screen. After about two months I decided to make a video and share what I learned and how it improved my mental health. Before quitting, I would care too much about what other people thought about me. I would want to comment on every little post that had misinformation because I wanted to educate my "friends". It would make me crazy because people with multiple degrees were spewing nonsense online. I also realized that a lot of my Facebook "friends" weren't my friends at all. Before I quit I told people to DM me if they wanted my personal contact information if they wanted to talk....no one did. No one really cared about me all that much. This taught me to focus on the relationships that actually matter in life. I also thought about how we always post things like Happy Mother's Day or pictures of children online. Who really benefits from this? If you plan on quitting social media, what platform do you want to try giving up first? For me it was Facebook. Leave a comment below sharing your opinion.
