In 2022, Short Story Day Africa ran an intensive online curriculum for emerging African writers in association with Laxfield Literary Associates and supported by the British Council. Captive: New Short Fiction from Africa, an anthology of short stories written during the SSDA Inkubator, is due out in March 2024. Literary agent Emma Shercliff discusses the project with three of the writers who took part in Inkubator, Zanta Nkumane, Josephine Sokan and Salma Yusuf, and finds out how the Short Story Day Africa project changed their perspectives, challenged their writing and what to expect from them next.
