January 23, 2026 - Amazon Jungle, Peru Woke this morning early at 5:30am and listening to the sounds of the Jungle. Up early for an early start with a boat ride on the river to a starting point for a Jungle walk. Lead by expert naturalist/guide to spot wildlife at nearby oxbow lakes and along jungle trails. Just amazing for the sights and information learned. Back to the lodge for lunch and a little time before an afternoon down the river to visit a nearby plantation. After dinner more adventure as we headed out after dark by motorized canoe to search for caimans on the river banks with our expert guide. Such keen eyes of the expert naturalist guides – they are truly spectacular at spotting these elusive smaller cousins of alligators hiding on the muddy banks. The big surprise was the 20 foot anaconda along the bank which slide into the water as we stood up to get off. NOT something we were expecting at all. We were told it has been close to 20 years since someone saw an anaconda in the area and it was unusual. Yeah ..sleep tight tonight as I am sure that mosquito netting will protect you !
