NS 1111 accelerates into Medora, KS leading UP ILBG4 and Horn Show | 8/19/2025

On August 19th, an NS SD70ACe was spotted on the UP GSR leading an eastbound UP ILBG4. Foreign power on GSR I trains is an uncommon occurrence nowadays compared to previous years, so this was nice news to hear. This unit also happened to be NS 1111, a unit referred to as the "Barcode Unit". It is nicknamed this due to the font on the numbers which make the numbers look like a barcode. NS 1111 was on a UP GBNMOP run from NS in Bloomington, IL to Optima, OK a couple of days prior to this video being shot. After arriving at Optima, the NS units were moved to Dalhart, TX to wait on UP MDHHN to take them back east. While waiting however, UP ILBG4 had its original leader break down near Dalhart, and NS 1111 was selected to replace the broken down unit.
