Join us for a live conversation with Storm Team 8 Meteorologist Jon Rivas. How much snow fell overnight and the cold moving in. It is a calm start to the morning, but things will change later in the day. Clouds will move back in through the morning and into the afternoon setting up for snow showers returning as early as the mid afternoon. The best chance will be into the evening and overnight. This can lead to some patchy snow showers for the evening commute along with any overnight travel. Thursday morning could also be slick with fresh snow on the ground and temperatures in the 20s. The accumulations will range from 1 to 3 inches with isolated areas capable of picking up 3 to 4 inches. The swath of these accumulations will stretch from northwest to southeastern Iowa including areas like Des Moines metro, Ames, Fort Dodge, Carroll, Grinnell, Iowa City, Montezuma, etc. Areas to the north and south of this will receive less than an inch to a trace. There will be a chance for some wintry mix as well as the precipitation starts with more mix chances for southwestern Iowa. Thursday afternoon will be sunny and mild with highs back into the 40s. The breeze will kick in on Friday which will help get temperatures highs into the 50s and even 60s. We will drop back down with another blast of colder air on Saturday bringing snow chances into northern Iowa and Southern Minnesota. The better chance for snow over the majority of the state will come Sunday as another low pressure system is expected to pass over the Midwest. There is still a lot of time the forecast to change when we talk about the weekend, but it could be another winter storm for the Midwest. Temperatures will drop for the end of the weekend and starting off the new week, but we will have a warming trend. More rain snow mix chances by Tuesday.
