A preview of how anthropologists have used the concept of "magic". Important terms and concepts include sympathetic magic (homeopathic and contagious); black (illegitimate) and white (legitimate) magic; granary & misfortune; Trobriand Islands, 'Baseball Magic', functionalism (social & cultural phenomena which contribute the survival of the group and individual); etic; Wicca. Important theorists include Frazer; Evans-Pritchard; Malinowski; Gmelch. Correction/Clarification: for Frazer, there are two kinds of sympatethic magic, namely homeopathic and contagious.
