Flora, Disaster, and Resilience: Ethnobotany and Feminism in the Caribbean

This talk was presented by Duke Students of the Caribbean Association and the Undergraduate Environmental Union. It features Alicia A. Wallace and Ella Vardeman. Alicia A. Wallace is a queer Black feminist, gender expert, and research consultant. She is the Director of Equality Bahamas, a feminist organization promoting women's and LGBTQI+ people rights as human rights through advocacy, public education, and community engagement. Ella Vardeman is a Ph.D. candidate in the City University of New York and New York Botanical Garden Plant Sciences program under the mentorship of Dr. Ina Vandebroek and Dr. Edward Kennelly. Her research focuses on the ethnopharmacology of plants used by Haitian immigrants for women's health.
