A five locomotive convoy is seen heading north through Bamfurlong with "Body-snatcher" 57305 dragging four former classmates, 47848, 47812, 47815 and 47813 from Derby to Carnforth Steamtown. The Four Class 47s had been acquired by West Coast from Rail Operations Group with ROG tasked with delivering the four Sulzers to their new home. The gen is a bit mixed regarding their fate, with some suggestions that one or two may be getting scrapped after providing spares for others in the fleet but other suggest that all four will be put back into traffic. Scrapping would certainly be a shame as all four were runners up until a few weeks ago and almost reminds me of when perfectly good locomotives drove themselves to the scrapyards... It was a particularly sombre occasion for myself given that Class 47s are my favourite class of locomotive, I honestly hope they stick around, even if it does mean wearing a coat of the drab WCR maroon :/ The official working was; 0N11 Derby RTC Serco - Carnforth Steamtown *For those not in the know, a Class 57 is nicknamed "Body-snatcher" or a "Zombie" as it is a rebuilt Class 47, with the Sulzer power unit replaced by an EMD block as well as other changes with the most obvious in the case of the 57/3s being the fitting of a Dellner coupling which does knacker the aesthetics somewhat. 57305 was built in 1964 as D1758 becoming 47164 following the introduction of TOPS in 1973, it would be renumbered to 47571 in 1979 and again to 47822 in 1989. It would be selected for the Class 57 programme following it's withdrawal by Virgin Trains and became 57305 in 2003. Thanks for watching and subscribe to see more rail videos coming soon.
