This EC Academy lecture introduces the Radix-2 Decimation-in-Frequency (DIF) Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) Algorithm. The DIF FFT is one of the two primary algorithms for efficiently computing the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) in Digital Signal Processing (DSP). The DIF approach dramatically reduces the computational complexity of the DFT by performing decimation on the output sequence, rather than the input. This method is characterized by: Natural Order Input: The input sequence is taken in its normal order. Bit-Reversed Output: The computed DFT coefficients are obtained in bit-reversed order. Butterfly Structure: A unique butterfly flow graph that features the twiddle factor $W_N^k$ before the two-point stage.
