This clip shows how much trucking has to happen to build a wind-farm in New Zealand. We start with the on-road transportation of one of Daniel Smith Industries 400-tonne cranes, broken down and carted by their Kenworth fleet. The crane is needed to lift the wind-tower segments for assembly. Getting the tower parts to the assembly site, required specialist heavy-haul operator Tranzcarr to assemble a diverse fleet that included Kenworth, Scania and Mack heavy hitters to move these massive loads firstly on-road, and then off-road to their final destination in the lower North Island. Shot early in the 2000's, this clip is a look back in time as several of the bridges and tunnels, and much of the Kaikoura coast-line is much changed after being rebuilt after the massive earthquakes that destroyed much of this infrastructure in 2017. This is soon to be the subject of another documentary - subscribe to this channel to keep up with progress on that.
