Wind River Range backpacking: Six day, 70 miles loop from the Scab Creek Trailhead to the Scab Creek Trail, Dream lake, Bonneville Basin, Lee Lake, Middle Fork Lake, Bewmark Lake, Photo Pass, Halls Lake, Shoestring Lake, Europe Canyon, Long Lake, Europe Canyon Lakes, Europe Pass, Europe Canyon Trail, Valley Lake, Lake Prue, Fremont Trail, Pipestone Lakes, Sandpoint Lake, Bobs Lake, Dream Lake and the Scab Creek Trail back to the Scab Creek Trailhead. Bridger Wilderness - Bridger National Forest Trailhead: Pole Creek Trailhead, Elkhart Park Wyoming August 2025 Itinerary: Day 1: Scab Creek Trailhead to Lower Bonneville Lake 10,521 via the Scab Creek Trail, Dream Lake, Fremont Trail and the Bonneville Basin. Camp at Lower Bonneville Lake. Day 2: Lower Bonneville Lake to Bewmark Lake: off trail route to Jim Harrower Lake, off-trail pass to Lee Lake, Middle Fork Lake and Bewmark Lake. Camp at Bewmark Lake. Day 3: Hike to Photo Pass and return to Bewmark Lake camp. Cross country route to Halls Lake from Bewmark Lake. Camp at Halls Lake. Off trail hike to Shoestring Lake in the pm. Day 4: Cross country route to Europe Canyon from Halls Lake. Camp at Lower Europe Canyon Lake 10,542. Cross Country hike to Long Lake in the pm. Day 5: Hike to Europe Pass from Lower Europe Canyon Lake. Hike to the upper slopes of Europe Peak and return to the Lower Europe Canyon Lake camp. Europe Canyon Trail to Valley Lake and Lake Prue. Fremont Trail to Pipestone Lakes, Sandpoint Lake and Bobs Lake. Camp at Bobs Lake. Day 6: Fremont Trail from Bobs Lake to Dream Lake. Dream Lake Trail to the junction with the Scab Creek Trail. Notes about the map: the map is indicative of the trip itinerary although mileage and moving time cannot be considered as reference as I often deviated from the route for filming and photography; also the moving time on the map includes all stops and breaks during the day as I stopped recording only once camp was setup for each day. Hike Notes: This was my first of four six day itinerary in the Wind River Range for the summer of 2025. I backpacked it in early August from the Scab Creek Trailhead. I was familiar with part of the route as I hiked to Dream Lake, the Bonneville Basin and Lee and Middle Fork lakes in the Summer of 2021. Since then I wanted to return and extend my hiking for a longer trip to Bewmark Lake and Photo Pass, Halls Lake and Europe Canyon and surrounding areas. Needless to say, it was a great Winds backpacking trip in the peak of Summer. Thunderstorms were frequent in the PMs, so I setup early camps on three of the days and went for pm hiking after the storms have passed. Plenty of daylight, warm days, peak wildflower season and spectacular sunsets and sunrises. I love the central part of the Winds because out of the highline and Fremont trails corridor the traffic is limited. The peaks and lakes of the Central Wind River Range are very beautiful and they are a joy to visit. I had solitary camps and hikes for most of the trip.
