Gigafactory Texas! This is where Model Y’s, and Cyber Truck production happens and soon, the Next Generation Car! Early morning flight over Giga Texas with a very nice sunrise illuminating the factory in oranges, reds and other deep colors! We start out on the west side of the highway to get some interior lighting inside the Boring Company tunnel so we can get a better idea how much work remains for the installation of the revised road surface panels. Fortunately, the view is great through a long length of the tunnel and this illustrates many more panels will be needed before the tunnel will be able to allow new vehicle traffic to use the tunnel. However, now that they are installing the revised panels, we are getting close to seeing the 1st new car come through. Timestamps: Drone flight overview with discussion & illustration: 0:06 to 6:23 Drone flight footage & infographics: 6:29 to 33:25 In the video introduction, I talk about the just-released 3rd quarter new vehicle and energy storage product results, and it was a good one for Tesla. About 470,000 vehicles were produced, about 463,000 deliveries and almost 7 GWh of energy storage sales, which is about a 73% jump up from last year’s numbers. Also, I discuss what the big deliveries at the Cathode plant are! This is automation equipment critical to producing the cathode material & hints at an additional refinement away from cobalt! Thanks to Patreon Harder NL and Dessie Doolan for their help identifying what this delivery was, how it may be used and for researching the company’s website for details. Cleia SAS is a French company that specializes in ceramics & EV battery automation, including the activation of cathode materials (CAM) for batteries. This uses heat treatment and product handling. CALCINATION & THERMAL PROCESS The raw materials essential to the manufacture of batteries, such as lithium, nickel, cobalt and manganese, must undergo an activation process. This process involves a transfer of material between the crucible and its contents, requiring both a drying phase and a cooking phase. The handling of the crucibles before and after these thermal stages is also crucial. Cleia manufactures & supplies handling equipment, robotics, and integrates traditional mechanical systems for the handling of saggars & other products associated with the CAM sector. The Sagger is an important storage container & transportation component in the firing process of Li-ion battery cathode materials & is mainly fabricated using Al2O3–SiO2–MgO (cordierite-mullite/spinel) composites. In addition, ceramic materials can be used to reduce the amount of cobalt in cathodes, which can help improve the sustainability of lithium-ion batteries. There is a new permit (shown) for the Cathode - Sagger stacking TBP Utility Drop, & this is related to this equipment. Finally, as Jordan from the Limiting Factor discussed recently, Tesla is moving away from cobalt & the current 4680 cells have adopted a NMC 955 chemistry, but the next step is NMC 973, & this equipment plays a role in achieving this! A few more highlights to look for today are: On the south end where the three emergency exit tunnels are located, we see more roof drainpipes are being installed near each of the three tunnels, while the top level of the terraced grade shows most of the surface, including the tops of the tunnels is prepared for what is likely an asphalt road. Work on the east side of the casting machine area shows the new steel covering structure has have more roof beams installed and welded into place and the installation of valley gutters near the main factory walls. At the electrical switchyard, crews have completed the concrete pours for the base and catch basins for the 3rd transformer, and they have removed all of the wooden forms.
