Welcome to the latest installment of Recon Jack. I’m your host, U.S. Marine veteran and historian, Chuck Lynch. On today’s episode, I’ll discuss the Mk 1 and Mk 2 fragmentation grenades. A grenade is an explosive device typically thrown by hand, and generally consists of an explosive charge, a detonation piece, an internal striker to trigger the detonator, and a safety lever secured by a cotter pin. There are several different types and shapes or sizes, but with fragmentation grenades being the most common in modern militaries, we'll focus on those carried by Marines in both World Wars. I’m always open to suggestions, and I will likely cover a few Marine family members of some of you subscribers in the near future. I really enjoy interacting with you folks and seeing the growth of this channel; so please do not hesitate to send an email to recon_jack@hotmail.com if you’d like for me to honor you or your Marine unit, or a Marine friend or family member.
