IMPACT | Transformation in Budgam Village: A Lifeline Restored Through Community Action and Advocacy

In Kokerbag village, Budgam district, a dilapidated road brought daily struggles. Vital for many villages, the road's poor condition left locals carrying emergency patients on their shoulders for kilometres. Public transport was scarce, as vehicles avoided the battered path. The community reached out to me on the phone, and I reached Kokerbag on the next day to document the miserable situation of people. The issue was then raised with the concerned authorities who assured me of possible quick action on the road. Today, change is palpable—the road has been reconstructed. Gratitude echoes through Kokerbag as locals thank Kashmir Unheard News and the responsive department for transforming their lifeline. 1000 inhabitants of this village are benefited by the construction of this road. It was possible only after bringing this issue to light through the story and social media that local rural development dept officials took cognisance of - CC also interviewed the officials and was assured of action, and after three months of constant follow-up by the CC, the issue is now resolved.
