After some gentle negotiations (read: bribery with the promise of good food and good friends), I somehow convinced my wife Karli to join me for our annual flight together. While she’s my biggest supporter on the ground, she’s not exactly lining up for frequent flyer points in a small GA aircraft. And to be fair… the last time we flew together involved turbulence, mountain valleys, and discovering what those ceiling cracks in the 172's are really from. This time, we’re heading from Bacchus Marsh to Bairnsdale via the Melbourne Coastal VFR route — a beautiful path that keeps us clear of controlled airspace but does a great job of testing your traffic awareness and multitasking skills. From dodging parachutes and Moorabbin traffic to navigating East Sale military airspace, it’s a day of flying that manages to mix stress and serenity in equal measure. In this video, you’ll join us through the full journey — takeoff, cruise, thermals, and a landing that was… let’s just say "serviceable." But the real win? A smiling passenger, a great lunch at Paynesville, and Karli’s camera working harder than my piloting. Flying is always special, but sharing it with someone you love (even if they're white-knuckling the door handle) is something else entirely. Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more FlightFix content — and if you’ve ever convinced your partner to brave a flight, drop your story below. I promise Karli reads the comments 😄 ✈️Clear skies, safe landings, and slightly less bumpy arrivals! Disclaimer: I’m not a certified flight instructor.
