A walk in the North Western Lake District up to two of the lower Wainwright Fells Ling Fell (373m) & Sale Fell (359m) The walk starts from the parking area at Brumston Bridge near the village of Wythop Mill which is next to Bassenthwaite Lake. The parking area is an ideal start point as it is between Ling Fell & Sale Fell. From the parking area we cross the bridge and walk up the road for a short distance until we come to a gate on the left hand side of the road. This gate gives access to Ling Fell. We walk through the gate and follow the path straight ahead. This path is known as the Corpse Road. We follow the Corpse Road until we come to a fork in the path. We then take the path on the left which heads up to Ling Fell summit. This is an easy path to follow and heads to the trig point on the summit. From Ling Fell we follow the path over the summit and down the other side of the fell . We then retrace our steps back to the bridge where the car is parked. We turn right at the bridge and walk towards a gate which gives access to a track. We follow this track which runs along the base of Sale Fell. We then turn left off the track and follow the path which leads to the summit of Sale Fell. The path climbs steadily until it reaches the summit of Sale Fell. The summit of Sale Fell has no cairn or trig point and is identified by a section of bare rock amongst the grassy top. We continue walking over the summit of Sale Fell towards the large cairn on Rivings. We then take the path down to the right and through Chapel Wood where we walk past the ruins of Old Wythop Church. From the old church we then follow the track back to Brumston Bridge where the car is parked. Distance is around 6 miles
