Hey guys! I got a little angry during this video, which focuses on the erasure of Black people's contributions to mainstream culture and, in particular, the erasure of Black women. Vogue magazine recently ran a piece heralding the arrival of the 'big booty era' and managed to credit it to white women- this list included Miley Cyrus. I am utterly disgusted by this level of cultural appropriation and lack of awareness, but then again, in our society it's nothing new, is it? Othering the black female body into something that literally did not exist before white women came along to make it acceptable. This is a basic tenet of cultural appropriation.
