GROUNDED 2024 | Day 1 | People Tent. Chris is a fourth-generation dairy farmer at Wauchope, on NSW’s mid-north coast. Since conversion to organic in 2000, education, discovery and regeneration have combined to use animals to heal the land and increase productivity. Changes include composting their own mulch and manure, once-a-day milking using solar power, and multi-species cropping. They produce organic eggs, and their on-farm shop sells beef, chicken and pork. Chris believes in the family farm as a place that empowers people in their various roles. Jimmy started his micro-dairy at 18 and currently milks 32 Jersey cows on his family’s organic property on the NSW mid-north coast. His 1950s six-stall walk-through dairy milks once a day, producing milk and yoghurt sold locally and beyond. His milk is unhomogenised and pasteurised at a lower temperature to maintain its integrity. It’s then put into returnable and reused glass bottles. He also offers home delivery in the local area and values the direct relationship with his customers.
