Climbing to Ibrovica, the highest peak of the mountain Selicevica, near Nis (Serbia) took place on the 13th of October, 2019 in the organization of the mountaineering society "Preslap" from Nis. For more information about “Preslap” following links can be usefull: http://www.preslap.rs/planinarsko-dru... / pdpreslap The climb was organized in the honor of the liberators of the city of Nis (honoring the day of liberation of Nis from the Turkish slavery in 1878, and the liberation of Nis in the First World War in 1918 and the Second World War in 1944). It is because all the liberators used the path coming from Selicevica Mountain and Delijski Vis in order to enter in occupied Nis. During the climb, the participants had the opportunity to hear more about the history regarding to the liberation of Nis in all of mentioned crucial years. The climb was financialy supported by the City of Nis, and logistically by the separate department in Berbatovo village of the Primary School “Branko Radicevic” from Gabrovac (the village near Nis). It is suitable for children as well, because the climb is not so hard and everything looks like a relaxed but longer walk. The climb began in the parking lot at the stadium of the Women’s Football Club “Masinac”, and first part ended at the small lake near Nis, on the Delijski Vis, where the excellent panoramic view of the city of Nis was offered. The climbers took their first break there, had their breakfast and heard a little bit about the history regarding to this area. Second section of climbing continued through a wide, mostly straight path to the village of Vukmanovo (distanced from Nis 9 km), where climbers took their second, longer break, next to the public drinking water fountain. Beautiful nature on warm October sun fed our eyes and soul. Third part of climbing took for another 6 km with an easy walk to the peak Ibrovica (the height of 902 m), the highest peak of mountain Selicevica. We were able to see the neighbor mountain Suva planina, but the view wasn't as magnificent as it was the view of Selicevica taken from Suva planina, because of the position of the path itself. At very top of Selicevica, there was the TV transmitting tower, the first object we saw there. It is located there because of the excellent location for transmitting the signals on high distance. Second object was the remains of a facility used in the Second World War by the German military as a radio relay center. They used it for transmitting signals towards North Africa in the Second World War. Third object was the cottage in the ownership of local family Ilic. The owner, Zoran, opened the door of its cottage, expecting the climbers with coffee, tea and domestic brandy. Climbers took their third break to enjoy in beautiful nature of Selicevica, to have their lunches and to take the pictures. The organizer used the opportunity to give some more information and interesting facts about the history of this part of Serbia. Mr. Zoran as well informed the present ones with his knowing of the history of local villages. On the descent, the direction was toward the village Berbatovo, where the present people were served with warm and delicious beans, fresh cabbage salad and soft, fresh bread. They were able to buy coffee, juices and local products at reasonable prices. In total, hikers took 16 km of walk, of which 11 km on the ascent and 5 km on the descent. Free bus ride to the city of Nis was organized for the hikers in return. All above description and filmed material are only our expressions and personal experience for fun purposes only.
