Helicopter traffic WEF Heliport Davos, Switzerland - Super Puma, Bell 429, AW139, Cougar...

Close to 3000 leaders from government, business, civil society and academia from 130 countries, including over 350 heads of state and government and ministers, participated in the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2025 in Davos, Switzerland. A small number of them traveled by helicopter to the temporary Davos Lago heliport. Some of the persons protected under international law were transported by Super Pumas / Cougars of the Swiss Air Force. In total, 108 internationally protected persons, including for example Volodimir Selensky or Olaf Scholz, requiring security measures attended the annual meeting of the WEF. During the WEF 2025, on January the 17th and from January 20th until January 25th, 2025, the airspace around Davos was a restricted zone within a radius of 25 NM (LS-R90). There are special procedures for arrivals and departures for the heliport and nearby airports, and all flights need prior permission from the authorities. The Swiss Air Force is patroling the restricted area with armed aircraft. Only previously accredited helicopters and crews are allowed to fly to the Heliport Lago in Davos. Because it is located in the Alps, pilots need Swiss mountain flight training - one of the reasons why VIP helicopters from abroad are not simply allowed to fly to Davos. Swiss Helicopter has been responsible for handling the non-military traffic. A large proportion of the civilian WEF traffic was carried by Lions Air (Leonardo AW139, Airbus Helicopters H145, EC135) and Airport Helicopters (Bell 429). Air traffic control provider Skyguide has been responsible for ATC services together with the Swiss Air Force. Each year, there is a temporary control tower built in Davos.
