Del Taco has permanently closed all of its Georgia restaurants, including popular locations in Tucker, Smyrna, Columbus, and Snellville. If you pulled up to the drive-thru this week expecting a Double Del Cheeseburger, you were met with a locked door and a "Permanently Closed" sign. But what exactly went wrong behind the scenes to cause this massive, overnight shutdown? In this video, we break down the sudden collapse of Del Taco in the Peach State. The trouble started back in July 2025 when the primary franchise operator for the Southeast, Matadoor Restaurant Group, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Faced with declining sales, rising operating costs, and aggressive expansion plans that backfired, the company tried to stay afloat using high-interest Merchant Cash Advances (MCAs). Unfortunately, those toxic loans created a death spiral of debt that the company couldn't escape. But this isn't just a local issue. On a national level, Del Taco has been struggling to compete with giants like Taco Bell. Parent company Jack in the Box bought the brand for $585 million in 2022, only to sell it off at a massive loss in late 2025. Now, Georgia communities are left with empty storefronts, and dozens of fast-food workers are out of a job. Are you surprised to see Del Taco leave the Atlanta market and the rest of Georgia again? Which fast-food chain would you like to see take over these empty buildings? Let us know in the comments below!
