In this weeks episode Lindsey and I explore beautiful Gasparilla Island along the southwest coast of Florida. We check out Boca Grande, the tiny tourist town on the island, as well as some of the historical sites around the island. This island is nested just north of Ft Meyers, Florida and south of Venice, Florida. It is just to the west of Gasparilla Sound, and protects the inner coastal water from the Gulf of Mexico. Access to the marina is through the Boca Inlet then north following the channel markers. ___________________________________ CHAPTERS 0:00 - Intro 2:33 - Fun Facts 3:42 - Island History 6:30 - Boca Grande Downtown 9:12 - Real Estate Tour 13:30 - Lighthouse 15:40 - Beach 19:10 - Banyan Trees 21:15 - Recap ____________________________________ According to Florida folklore, Gasparilla Island gets its name from the legendary pirate captain José Gaspar, who had his base on the island and purportedly hid his fabulous treasure there. Spoiler alert: We did NOT find the treasure. This island was rated in the top 10 places to own a second home in all of America and the real estate prices certainly reflect that. We take you guys down a couple streets showing you houses for sale, and reveal the crazy asking prices. Of course we are traveling by boat so I drop a few hints on travel to and from the island via the marina where we rented a golf cart and went cruising. We hope you enjoy following along with our journey. If you are new here leave us a comment. P.S. If you are reading this I am sorry for the shaky footage, this was filmed before I knew how important stabilization was and returned the camera without it. This will be the last shaky video you see my apologies. Social links: Join us on Patreon (Lindsey runs our Patreon, all content is posted by her.
