The children of Cheryl's Children's Home in Dagoretti (www.cherylshome.org) like Fagin's Gang from "Oliver!" are orphans...but in the case of Cheryl's Children most of the kids have had truly horrific, and at times unthinkable, pasts. But now they have a real second chance at life, and have REAL hope for the future. The beyond basic conditions at the orphanage have been transformed into solid accommodation and education facilities, and the second phase of building, which includes a secondary school, farm, and technical school is already well under way. Have a look at www.cherylshome.org and talk to Cheryl's Director Samuel Sambuli if you want to know more, or speak to Kieren Barnes also at Cheryl's, or to Basil Love from Kenya Build www.kenyabuild.com In July 2010, the kids were part of a series of concerts in Nairobi, and here they are seen as they record their first CD at the Loreto Convent in Msongari, thanks to the generosity of the staff there, in particular Mrs Mary Osore and Sister Margaret. Gerry Cunningham from Sligo, who works in the UN in Nairobi, masterminded the entire operation. These inspirational children were trained by Maeve Coghlan (www.myspace.com/maevecoghlan), Colm Henry (www.myspace.com/colmhenry), Mary Lang'at from Cheryl's Children's Home, and James Nelson (www.celtictenors.com and www.jamesdnelson.com). Keep an eye out for their debut charity CD. All proceeds go to the children's futures! The soloist is Patrick Musa. Cheryl's Children CD is now available.
