Mechanical ventilation is a life-saving therapy widely used in intensive care units around the world. However, selecting the optimal ventilator settings for critically ill patients remains a major challenge. A patient’s respiratory condition can change rapidly, requiring clinicians to constantly balance two competing goals: ensuring adequate gas exchange while minimizing the risk of ventilator-induced lung and organ injury. The IntelliLung project addresses this challenge by developing an AI-based clinical decision support system designed to help intensive care teams optimize mechanical ventilation for critically ill patients.
