There's a hidden difficulty in Warriors Abyss, accessed by pressing Down 5-ish times on the difficulty select screen with the cursor on Traversal 6. You'll know you did it right when your character says a line you can't understand because it's in Japanese. Anyways, this difficulty buffs up enemies even further than normal and spawns tons of sub-bosses in most phases, even spawning them in boss fights along with more peons and Sin Spewers. Sin Spewers are basically on full-auto, becoming a real pain to ignore during boss fights. You HAVE to fight True Gouma at the end as well, but the upside is you don't have to take down the thorns of ruins so you can get more characters, and you have an extra phase to get even more characters. Enemies also drop A LOT more Tears of Blood, so if you spot a Cauldron you can probably buy a few units from it at any given time. You also seem to get more EXP, I got to LV 50 without really much effort. The peons take longer to kill though, especially early on. Missions also have a reduced timer, giving you only a meager 15 seconds to complete them, so you definitely want an Assembly ready to go when taking on one of those, since Assembly Musou will stop the timer. I held off on doing this for the longest time because I wanted to have a maxed character, but I always switch characters when I play this, so I just had to grind up Ryu a bit off screen. The last couple levels may not even be worth it though since it only increased his Spd. Getting a higher level, more money to buy units, and more phases to get powered up in can lead to you having your strongest possible builds and makes you pretty strong by the time you get to the later bosses. Having respawning enemies makes it easier to spam Musous and Assembly too, although it can get hectic with multiple bosses firing off AoE attacks. The general strategy is really just to get strong and go nuts, dodging whenever you think you see an attack coming. Having a way to heal is a good idea to keep your health up for when an occasional attack comes your way. You get a unique flaming background for the victory screen on clear, and it uses red text for the Traversal difficulty stuff. Oh and I used all Ninja Gaiden music for this. Felt pretty appropriate. I hope we get William playable in this before too long.
